Warner Bros. and the Weinsteins will sue over the Hobbit (Topic)

Preparing for the premiere of The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug overshadowed by litigation between Warner Bros. and brothers Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the parties argued about sharing the profits from the rental of the second part of the trilogy. The Weinsteins, who owned Miramax, which owned the rights to movie adaptation of Tolkien's works, are convinced they are entitled to the same percentage of profits that they received after the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, that is, about $ 12.5 million.

In turn, representatives of Warner Bros. are sure that the brothers could claim only a part of the profit from the rental of the first part of the trilogy, but not its sequels. The parties refuse to give official comments for now.

Note that the documents at the disposal of the publication contain interesting information. It turns out that it was the Weinstein brothers who provided Peter Jackson with a start-up capital of $ 10 million to organize Weta, now one of the leading special effects producers.

The second part of The Hobbit is out; is scheduled for release on December 13, 2013.
