Completely unexpected news came from the Star Trek 3 moviemakers camp. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roberto Orci refused the director's post. No explanation has been provided for his resignation.

For Orchi, the third part of the fantasy movie was supposed to be the director's debut. Previously, he co-wrote the movies "Star Trek: Retribution" and "Star Trek". Orci will likely remain a Star Trek 3 producer.

Edgar Wright, who directed such movies as "Armageddian" and "Scott Pilgrim Against All", is named one of the possible contenders for the post of director of the movie, and at one time was listed as the director of "Ant-Man".

Star Trek 3 premiere date is still unknown. The movie is expected to be released in time for the popular franchise's 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2016.

As a reminder, the last episode titled "Star Trek: Retribution" was released in 2013. The production budget of the movie was $ 190 million, and the world box office was quite modest - $ 467 million. This allowed the project to pay off, but the profits of its creators left much to be desired. The first two movies in the series were directed by J.J. Abrams.
