Director of Cloud Atlas Tom Tykwer and producer Stefan Arndt are developing a professional television project, based on the novels of the German writer Volker Kutcher about the police detective Gereon Rath, who worked in Germany in the 1920s. The Hollywood Reporter writes about this.

The directors Achim von Borris (`` Why thoughts of love? '') And Hendrik Handlegten (`` Learning to Lie '') are adapting books about Gideon Rath along with Tykwer and Arndt in a 12-episode television project called Babylon Berlin. The series is planned to be movieed in German, but it will be targeted for international promotion.

In Kutcher's novels, the main character police detective Gedeon Rath is transferred from Cologne to Berlin and works to solve crimes in the troubled capital of Germany. The four novels published so far describe the time period from 1929 to 1932 before Adolf Hitler and the Nazis came to power.

Stefan Arndt suggests there will be enough material for several seasons of Babylon Berlin.
