The Phantom of the Opera is being adapted for TV (Topic)

Gaston Leroux's novel "The Phantom of the Opera" will be adapted into a serial. According to Deadline, the script will be written by Tony Krantz (Dracula) and directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie). Both have been executive produced alongside Colin Kallander (The White Queen). As in the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the novel by Leroux, the series will be set in Paris, but not in a nineteenth century opera, but in a jazz club in the early twentieth century.

In the television version of The Phantom of the Opera. there will be a lot of sex, murder and mysteries. In the center of the plot – A World War I British fighter pilot with burns covering half of his body is involved in the murders taking place in the most popular Parisian club. The famous American actress Josephine Baker is the target of a murderer's malice and, possibly, a love interest of the Phantom.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet, whose list of works already includes one war drama from the First World War – "The Long Engagement" was the only contender for the director's post in the project, which will be his debut on television. In particular, the director commented on the news: "I look forward to getting started, when I can bring the original version of Krantz to the screen with Endemol Studios. We have the opportunity to retell the classic novel by Gaston Leroux, full of mystery and romance amid great social change."
