FreemantleMedia, an international television content producer, has announced plans to movie Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel American Gods in serial format. The British science fiction writer, also known as the author of the comic book series The Sandman, Gaiman will act as the executive producer of the television project. This is reported by the publication Deadline. In the center of the plot of the novel is the former prisoner Shadow Moon, who, after leaving prison, becomes the bodyguard of a mysterious gentleman named Wednesday. The latter, as it turns out later, is one of the ancient gods. The shadow accompanies Wednesday on a journey around the world, the purpose of which is – collect as many forces as possible to fight against new deities – money, technology, media, celebrities and drugs. For the first time, they started talking about the adaptation of the novel in 2011, when the co-founders of the Playtone studio Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman intended to produce a series based on the work with the HBO channel.
