HBO renews Game of Thrones series for two more seasons. The decision was made by the channel's management two days after the premiere of the fourth season, which took place on April 6, 2014. According to The Hollywood Reporter, on the day of its premiere, the fantasy drama attracted 6.6 million viewers. Also, contracts were extended with the creators and showrunners of the series – David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Based on a series of novels by writer George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones TV series has become the most watched HBO show in recent years. The third season of the drama a week on various platforms was watched by an average of about 14.4 million people. Returning on April 6 with a fourth season, the show has set a new record since 2007, – 6.6 million viewers - which belonged to the finale of The Sopranos.
