HBO has signed David Fincher (Gone Girl) and James Ellroy (Los Angeles Secrets) to create the noir drama "Shakedown." The action in the TV project according to the script of Ellroy takes place in the fifties of the last century in Los Angeles in the world of tabloids and everything connected with it. In the center of the plot is a detective, the prototype of which was the famous private detective of Hollywood of those times, Fred Otash. According to Deadline, production of the TV project has already begun.

The upcoming series "Shakedown" is an original drama project created by Ellroy. It has nothing to do with the novel of the same name, published by the writer in 2012, the main character of which is also a fictionalized version of Otash. The HBO drama is script-based, which Ellroy originally designed for the FX channel with another production team. Fincher and Ellroy will co-executive produce the project with Joshua Donen (House of Cards), Clark Peterson (Monster) and Stephen Hoban (Chimera).

Fincher and Ellroy already have experience working together. For example, Fincher was engaged in a television adaptation of the novel by the writer "Black Orchid", according to which, instead of a mini-series in 2006, a full-length movie was shot. In addition, Fincher and Ellroy are involved in another HBO project – adaptation of the British TV series "Utopia", which at the time of this writing is in production.

Recall that Fincher is the executive producer and director of the political thriller "House of Cards"
