CBS has received the rights to produce the television sequel to the Relativity Media thriller "Areas of Darkness," starring Bradley Cooper. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cooper will take over as executive producer, but will not star in the series himself.

Events in the series will continue from the moment at which the feature movie, which was released in 2011, ended. : Brian Sinclair discovers the properties of the mysterious drug NZT and is forced to use the resulting abilities for good.

Craig Sweeney ("The Medium") will write the script for the sequel. He will also executive produce alongside Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Todd Phillips, Ryan Kavanagh, Tucker Tooley and Heather Kadin. Writer Leslie Dixon and producer Scott Krupp, who worked on the original movie, will also be involved in the production of the television project. The director of the movie, Neil Berger, will direct the pilot episode and continue to work in the sequel, if further production is given the green light.

The thriller "Areas of Darkness", based on the novel of the same name by Alan Glynn, has earned more than one hundred and sixty million dollars in worldwide box office with a production budget of twenty-six million.
