HBO and Warner Bros. TV will co-produce a series based on Isaac Asimov's trilogy Foundation. The series will be written by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar). This is reported by The Wrap, citing its sources.

First published in 1942 as a series of eight stories in Astounding Magazine, The Foundation is a complex saga of people scattered across the planets throughout the galaxy and living under the rule of the Galactic Empire. The scientist Gary Seldon, who created "psychohistory", can scientifically predict the future. He sees the impending doom of the Empire and gets to work, preparing to preserve the knowledge of mankind.

Sony Pictures in 2009 received the rights to movie the trilogy, which was to be dealt with by Roland Emmerich. Two years later, the studio hired Dante Harper to adapt the books. The project never came to fruition, and HBO bought the rights in the summer of 2014.

When asked what kind of science fiction Jonathan Nolan likes that is unknown to a wide range of readers, the writer replied: "I, damn take, I love Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels. They are, of course, quite famous, but I think it would be useful for everyone without exception to reread them. The influence that this series of works produces is incredible. These books have been imitated, and many they inspired. Reread them for some ideas that will make your hair stand on end. "

Representatives of HBO and WBTV, and Jonathan Nolan have so far refrained from comment. As of this writing, Nolan is working with HBO on Western World.
