Universal offers Scarface Remake to Antoine Fuqua

Universal Pictures has selected another director for the new version of the crime drama Scarface. According to Deadline, this post was suggested by Antoine Fuqua, the creator of such famous movies as "Training Day", "The Great Equalizer" and others.

It is argued that, unlike previous versions, the action of the next remake will take place in Los Angeles, who will be in the center of the plot, at the time of this writing, it was not specified. Note that Universal has been trying to movie a new version of Scarface for many years. In 2014, Chilean director Pablo Larrain was selected as director, but the project was never launched.

The original tape was released in 1932, but the 1983 remake, directed by Brian De Palma, is the most famous. Al Pacino played the role of Cuban emigre Tony Montana, who makes his way to the top of Miami's underworld, thus realizing the notorious "American Dream".

The painting quickly gained cult status in the gangster drama genre and was awarded several prestigious professional awards. At the same time, Brian De Palma himself was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award.
