Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have not abandoned their plans to make a sequel to the fantasy movie Pacific Rim. However, they will do this without the participation of Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro, who has been suspended from work on the project.

According to Deadline, one of the creators of the TV series "Spartacus" and "Daredevil" Stephen S. DeKnight has been appointed the new director. This will be his debut as a director of a feature movie, intended for distribution.

Terms of work on the movie "Pacific Rim 2" and its possible release schedule have not yet been specified. According to Del Toro himself, he had already met with the new director of the movie to wish him the best of luck, and found out that the sequel "will be massive."

Recall that the premiere of "Pacific Rim" took place in 2013. The plot was built around the struggle of mankind with the monstrous Kaiju that penetrate the Earth from other dimensions. To defend against them, humans have built giant robots controlled by specially trained pilots. The movie stars Charlie Hunnam, Diego Klattenhoff, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Bern Gorman, Max Martini, Robert Kazinski, Clifton Collins Jr., Ron Perlman and other actors.

The results of the rental of the project were depressing: just over $ 400 million with a budget of 190 million.
