Weinstein Television has announced the start of work on a limited-episode series "Waco" based on a true story - – the tragedy siege of the Branch of David ranch in Waco, Texas. John Eric Dowdle will direct the series from a script he will co-write with his brother Drew Dowdle ("No Way Out"). Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) and Taylor Kitsch (Ordinary Heart) have been appointed as leading roles. Shannon will play the lead FBI negotiator Gary Noesner, while Kitsch will play the notorious religious leader David Koresh. The Dowdles brothers, Shannon and Kitsch will share the duties of executive producers on the 1993 series. This is reported by the ComingSoon edition.

In February 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) initiated a raid on Mount Carmel Ranch, owned by the Branch of David sect in Waco. According to the information bureau received, the ranchers were suspected of violating weapons laws. The raid quickly escalated into a shootout between the FBI, ATF and the "Davidians", and then into a siege that lasted 51 days and ended in a fire, as a result of which about 80 members of the sect, including children, died on the ranch.
