The CW and showrunner of the comedy "Virgin Jane" Jenny Snyder will restart the popular late 90s – early 2000s of the TV series "Charmed". This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming drama is described as a reimagining of the original series, which takes place in 1976. The new version will be movieed in the spirit of the original show, although many details are unclear at this point.

The Virgin Jane writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin created the story and will write the script. Ben Silverman, executive producer of Jane's Virgins alongside O'Toole, Rardin and Snyder, will take over the same responsibilities. "Virgins Jane" director Brad Silberling has been executive produced and will direct the pilot episode.

The relaunch has gotten underway nearly three years after CBS announced plans to remake the original series, which aired on The WB for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. The series starred Holly Marie Combs, Alice Milano, Shannen Doherty and Rose McGown.

The CBS relaunch, which did not progress beyond development, received no support from Milano and McGown. In Milano's opinion, it is too early to do the remake, as too little time has passed since the show ended.
