The sixth season of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones will premiere on April 24, 2016 at 9:00 pm. Following it, the broadcast of the series "Silicon Valley" and "VIP" will resume, which will return with the third and fifth seasons, respectively. The news was announced during the Television Critics Association exhibition. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

In previous seasons of Game of Thrones, the writers adapted and adhered to the original source to a greater extent – cycle of works by George R.R. Martin, and for viewers who read the novels of the writer, the main outline of the story was familiar. That will change in the upcoming sixth season as the show begins to unfold important events from an as-yet-unpublished novel. A few days earlier, Martin officially confirmed that the sixth novel of the "Winds of Winter" series would not be released until the premiere of the sixth season of the series, despite his best efforts.

Among the characters whose fate is unknown to both readers and viewers : Jon Snow (Kit Harington), loyal to the Night's Watch fraternity; Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), surrounded by an army of Dothraki; Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), intending to master the powers of the warg, and many other heroes.

Also the president of HBO Programming Michael Lombardo mentioned that HBO will officially announce the extension of "Game of Thrones" for the seventh and eighth seasons.
