Cable Channel Starz has officially commissioned production of the series based on Neil Gaiman's famous fantasy novel American Gods, which is owned by FremantleMedia North America. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The drama tells about the brewing war between old and new gods: traditional biblical gods and gods of myths are constantly losing their supporters, who turn to new gods - money, new technologies, the media, celebrities and drugs. The main character, a former prisoner Shadow Moon, becomes the bodyguard and partner of Mr. Wednesday and accompanies him on his travels. In fact, Wednesday is one of the oldest gods, and his mission is to gather old gods from all over the world for an epic battle with new deities. Published in 2001, the novel has won Hugo and Nebula awards and has been translated into over 30 languages.
