Ben Stiller to direct a series based on Gary Steingart's bestseller (Topic)

Ben Stiller ("The Incredible Life of Walter Mitty") has been executive produced and co-directing the dramatic comedy "Super Sad True Love Story", produced by independent studio MRC. The TV project, based on Gary Steingart's novel Super Sad True Love Story, is currently casting. According to Deadline, the series is expected to be commissioned for production, bypassing the pilot stage. MRC has used a similar model for all of their shows, including House of Cards for Netflix and the upcoming series Blunt Says and The One Percent for Starz.

Action in the dramedy "Super Sad True Love Story" based on the script by Steingart and Karl Hajdusek ("Desperate Measures" ) takes place in the not-too-distant future and explores the unpromising relationship between a book lover, stuck in a tech-obsessed society, and a difficult young Korean materialist American. Going through the stages of a nascent romance, the guy must fulfill the ever-increasing demands from his charismatic boss, who, in turn, is under pressure from the despotic American government.
