Geoffrey Rush will play Albert Einstein
National Geographic Channel is preparing its first script series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable channel has enlisted the support of Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush (Glitter), who will play Albert Einstein in the anthology Genius. Musician and aspiring actor Johnny Flynn ("Love Is Thicker Than Water") will portray the great physicist in his younger years. The first season of the anthology is based on the critically acclaimed biography of the famous scientist, written by Walter Isaacson. The pilot will direct Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), for whom this will be his first experience of directing a screenplay drama on television. The co-production of the series, which was given the green light this April, studios Fox 21 Television Studios (Motherland), Imagine Television (Empire), OddLot Entertainment and EUE / Sokolow will be involved. Production will begin in September in Prague and will premiere for Nat Geo subscribers in 171 countries in 45 languages in 2017. The first ten-episode Genius season will show the years leading up to international recognition of the scientist. The drama will show how an obstinate clerk with a rich imagination, working in a patent office and unable to even get a job as a teacher, eventually revealed the secrets of the atom and the universe. Each episode will focus on Einstein's scientific endeavors along with his conflicting, passionate and challenging personal relationships.
