Colin Firth to star in a movie about a bad trip around the world
Colin Firth will play the lead role in the drama dedicated to the failed attempt of the British businessman and adventurer Donald Crowhurst to travel around the world on a yacht. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. In 1968, Crowhurst took part in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, organized by the popular publication. Not possessing sufficient experience, he set off on a journey, hoping in this way to avoid the impending bankruptcy. The first leg of the regatta was accompanied by constant breakdowns of equipment aboard Crowhurst's yacht, the Golden Pot. Realizing that he was not able to win in a fair fight, Crowhorst decided on a scam: he left the race, trying to shorten the route. To fool the race organizers, he gave them false coordinates and even kept a fictitious logbook. The fate of the adventurer was decided by chance. After the unexpected disaster of the leading yacht, Crowhurst became the undisputed favorite of the race, according to previously transmitted false coordinates. But he did not come to the finish line. His yacht was found completely empty in the Sargasso Sea. A second logbook was found on board, incriminating him. It is assumed that Crowhurst jumped overboard and drowned, realizing that his deception would inevitably be exposed. The director of the movie will be James Marsh, creator of Stephen Hawking's Universe. As a reminder, this project was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The rental schedule of the movie, which will be funded by StudioCanal and BBC Films, has not yet been specified. Filming is expected to start in spring 2015.
