NBC continues to work closely with award-winning television producer Dick Wolfe. The television network has ordered the production of the next seasons of two series of Wolfe – Law & Order Special Victims Unit and the Doctors of Chicago - and has extended the producer's contract until 2020. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The collaboration between Wolfe and NBC has been incredibly productive. In addition to the Chicago franchise, which also includes Chicago On Fire and Chicago Police, Wolfe created the Law & Order franchise. The legal drama lasted twenty seasons and spawned two spin-offs – Special Victims Unit and Law & Order. Criminal Intent.

Now that Special Victims Unit extended for an 18th season, we can only hope that the spin-off, starring Golden Globe winner Mariska Hargitay, will last more seasons than Law and Order that spawned it and become the longest running screenplay in history television. The record for most episodes is still held by the CBS western series Gunsmoke.

In addition to those shows in the Chicago franchise, NBC and Wolfe are developing a possible spin-off, Chicago Law. ... Also, the partners also have a potential series – "Law & Order: You the Jury."

"Dick Wolfe is without question one of the greatest producers in television history," NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. – The Law & Order franchise alone would have been enough to celebrate his incredible contributions to television. And with "Chicago" he now generally rushed into the stratosphere. For a generation, his voice was the voice of NBC, and he is forever associated with our channel. "
