Steven Spielberg's next directorial project after "The BFG" will be a screen adaptation of Ernest Cline's sci-fi novel Ready Player One, curated by Warner Bros. Studios. and Village Roadshow. This is reported by the Comingsoon edition.
The three-time Academy Award winner will direct a movie based on a screenplay written by Zach Penn.
The action of the work takes place in the near future during a global crisis. A significant part of humanity is trying to hide from the oppressive reality in a virtual utopia called the OASIS, where everyone gets a chance for an ideal alternative life. The main character is a young man named Wade Watts. He decides to take part in a virtual quest, the winner of which will get the multibillion dollar fortune of the deceased creator of the OASIS. The hero will have to face rivals who are ready to do anything, both in the virtual and in the real world, to get the coveted trophy.
The shooting and rental schedules of the project have not yet been specified. The BFG is due out in 2016, and Spielberg is likely to start working on the movie adaptation of Ready Player One at that time.
