Frank Spotnitz has stepped down as showrunner for Amazon's drama "The Man in the High Castle." Based on the Philip K. Dick novel, the second season is in production in Vancouver at the time of this writing. The series takes place in 1962 in an alternate reality in which Germany and Japan won the Second World War and occupied the United States. This is reported by Variety.

Spotnitz and Amazon have released the following joint statement:

"Due to the ambitiousness and scale of the series, we have decided to focus all our creative efforts on the West Coast; Frank Spotnitz will remain an Executive Producer and our talented production team will take over his showrunner duties. The pilot episode debuted on the service in January 2015 and became the highest-rated episode on Amazon. The ten-episode first season premiered last November.
