MTV is developing a series based on the War of the Worlds novel

Ahead of the completion of The Werewolf, MTV has found a new project for the creators of the youth horror drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Davis and writer Andrew Cochran are adapting HG Wells' War of the Worlds into a TV series.

First published in 1897, the novel was one of the first literary works to describe human conflict and representatives of extraterrestrial civilization. The book has more than once served as a source of inspiration for the creation of radio shows, television projects and feature movies. Their recent adaptations of the novel – Steven Spielberg's 2005 War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise.

Jeff Quadinetz and Josh Barry will curate the project. The latter's grandfather, Jean Barry, starred in Byron Haskin's 1953 War of the Worlds and a cameo appearance in 2005.

Should the series be commissioned for production, it will join the channel's recent dramas, including adaptations of Scream and The Chronicles of Shannara ". As for "Werewolf", the sixth final season will be released in 2017.

New versions of projects are in the works in the 2016-2017 season: "Dynasty" (The CW), "Private detective Magnum" (ABC) , The Lost Boys (The CW), The Student Team (CMT), The Departed (Amazon), Let Me In (TNT), Los Angeles Law and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
