Daniel Bruhl (Captain America 3: Civil War) and Luke Evans (Girl on the Train) have key roles in the upcoming TNT drama "The Alienist," based on Caleb Carr's international bestseller. This is reported by the publication Deadline. Action in the novel – psychological thriller – takes place in The Gilded Age (1896) in New York City, a city full of luxury, appalling poverty and technical innovation. After a series of chilling murders, newly appointed Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt assembles a covert intelligence group that includes himself, psychology doctor Laszlo Kreizler (Bruhl), and The Times criminal news reporter John Moore (Evans). Known as an alienist – scientist studying psychopathology, - Kreizler explores deviant behavior. His occupation and non-compliance with generally accepted norms of behavior make him a social outcast. By investigating crimes, Kreizler hopes to unravel the traumatic mysteries of the human psyche, especially his own, and to answer the question of what turns a person into a murderer. Beautiful and easy-going Moore – longtime friend of Dr. Kreizler and Commissioner Roosevelt. With all his passion, he gives himself up to the search for a terrible killer, during which he will have to face the hard-hitting truth about himself. Jakob Verbruggen ("Black Mirror") has been appointed the director of the series, which was scheduled to premiere in late 2017. The responsibilities of executive producers are shared by Verbuggen, Cary Fukunaga, Eric Roth, Hussein Amini, Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin.
