Originally developed for Starz in 2012, Marco Polo debuted on Netflix in December 2014. In a drama produced by The Weinstein Co. an international cast was assembled, led by Lorenzo Riquelmi (Marco Polo) and Benedict Wong (Kublai Khan). The second season debuted on July 1, 2016. Actors' contracts expire at the end of this year. Sources of the publication claim that the series brought Netflix in losses of two hundred million dollars.
