Best female lead was named at the 2015 Oscars. Julianne Moore (Still Alice) went to the category award.

Her competitors were Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night), Felicity Jones (Stephen Hawking Universe), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild).

This is Julianne Moore's first Academy Award. She was previously nominated for an Oscar four times, but failed to win the award. In Still Alice, which was based on the novel of the same name by Lisa Genova. the actress had a chance to play a woman who is gradually losing her memory.

Julianne Moore previously won a 2015 Golden Globe and BAFTA for her leading role in this movie.

The Academy Awards ceremony took place at the Los Angeles-based Dolby Theater. It was hosted by the popular Hollywood actor Neil Patrick Haris.
