CBS has commissioned the production of Ransom, a co-production series between Entertainment One, TF1 and Corus Global. In the thirteen-part drama, Black Sails star Luke Roberts will play the lead role. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Ransom, created by Frank Spotnitz (The Man in the High Castle) and David Vainola (Military Hospital), is based on the professional experience of a crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert. He and his partner Marwan Mary are considered some of the best negotiators in the world.

The series is officially described as follows: The focus is on high-profile negotiator Eric Beaumont (Roberts) and the team he leads who save lives when others do not. Eric understands criminals better than they do and uses his knowledge of human behavior to solve the most difficult cases of kidnapping and ransom. Despite the stakes, Eric refuses to resort to violence, even when confronting dangerous criminals. Professional skill often complicates his relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. The series kicks off with Eric giving new team member Maxine Carlson a chance to show her worth. But a dangerous secret from Maxine's past could pose a threat that even the great Eric Beaumont is unable to resolve.

About two weeks ago, Spotnitz stepped down as showrunner for Amazon's The Man in the High Castle, leaving behind responsibilities executive producer. "The world of crisis negotiations is incredibly exciting, which can be judged by the real cases with which Laurent Combalbert dealt. Laurent has become the prototype of a bright and complex character, and you have no choice but to watch how he saves lives around the world, "- said in a statement Spotnitz.
