Casting has begun for the seventh season of Game of Thrones. According to Entertainment Weekly, Academy Award-winning and Golden Globe-winning Jim Broadbent (Iris) is the first to officially land a role in the upcoming season of HBO's fantasy drama.

The role of an actor known to fans "Potterians" like Professor Horace Slughorn would be "significant". Other details regarding the character Broadbent will play are kept secret, as usual in Game of Thrones.

Recall that the seventh season of the series, based on the series of works by George R.R. Martin, will be the penultimate one. HBO programming head Casey Blues has confirmed that the series will conclude with an eighth season. The seventh chapter will have seven episodes, and its premiere will take place no earlier than summer 2017. The delay is due to the fact that to start movieing, the producers are waiting for the onset of bad weather, which is required to visually confirm that "winter is really coming." Production will begin this summer and will take place in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland.

In mid-August this year, the Watchers on the Wall fan site published a list of new characters for the seventh season, including the commander, priest, warrior, guard at gate, city guard, merchant, courtesan, young lord and lieutenant.

Broadbent is yet another actor from the Harry Potter franchise to join his fellow Potter on Game of Thrones. Among them: Natalia Tena, David Bradley and Kiaran Hinds.
