Robert Rodriguez intends to movie a remake of Escape from New York
20th Century Fox has returned to the idea of creating a new version of the fantastic action movie "Escape from New York". According to the Tracking Board, the director of the remake could be Robert Rodriguez, with whom negotiations on this topic are already underway. The script for the movie will be prepared by Neil Cross, who previously worked on the team of creators of the television series "Luther". Original movie director John Carpenter has been appointed as producer of the project. Rodriguez is expected to start work on Escape from New York after the movieing of Battle Angel is completed. In the 1981 movie, the action took place in the near future, when the crime rate reached such levels that the entire central part of New York was turned into a maximum security prison. One day a presidential plane crashes over the city, and the head of state is captured by the most influential crime boss in New York. To rescue the president, the authorities send the known robber Plisken the Serpent to the bandits' den. There have been attempts to remove the new version before. So, in 2013 it was reported that Jason Statham could play the title role in the remake. However, this project never went into production.
