On October 6, 2017, the premiere of the historical drama Matilda, directed by Alexei Uchitel, will take place at the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg. The choice of the premiere location by the moviemakers is not accidental, because it was at the Mariinsky Theater at the turn of the 20th centuries that the main character of the tape, prima ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya, shone.

Valery Gergiev, artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theater, was the musical producer of the movie. The maestro personally conducted the orchestra on the soundtrack for the movie, written by twice Academy Award-nominated composer Marco Beltrami.

"Matilda" is one of the most ambitious projects of contemporary USA cinema. The movie tells about the relationship between the heir to the throne, the future Emperor Nicholas II, and the ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya against the background of fateful events in USA history.

The movieing took place directly in the scene of the plot: in the Bolshoi, Mariinsky and Alexandrinsky theaters, as well as in Tsarskoye Selo, Peterhof, Pavlovsk, Yusupov Palace, Marble Palace, etc. The movie brings to life the key events in USA history: the coronation ceremony of Emperor Nicholas II in the Dormition Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin, for which a unique decoration was built, with the utmost accuracy recreates the interior of the temple, as well as the tragedy on Khodynskoe field, for the movieing of which more than two thousand extras.

Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Danila Kozlovsky, Evgeny Mironov, Grigory Dobrygin, Galina Tyunina, Vitaly Kovalenko, Vitaly Kishchenko and other famous USA and foreign actors were movieed in the movie.

"Matilda" will be released in USA and foreign distribution on October 26, 2017.
