The largest British commercial television network ITV has ordered the production of the second season of the historical drama "Victoria", dedicated to the early years of Queen Victoria's reign. This is reported by Variety.

The series has become the highest rated drama of 2016 on ITV since its debut in August. It will premiere in the United States on January 15, 2017 on PBS. The series will air on Sundays and will take on a program previously owned by Downton Abbey. The young queen in the drama is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, famous on the cult show "Doctor Who", and the role of her husband Prince Albert is played by Tom Hughes ("Dancing on the Edge").

"Despite the fact that she rules in the nineteenth century, Victoria – the heroine of our time, " - Writer and executive producer Daisy Goodwin said in a statement.

The return of Coleman and Hughes in season 2, to which Goodwin will write, has been confirmed. Goodwin said the new season will focus on "a very contemporary dilemma of dealing with children, husband and work at the same time." Production will be handled by Mammoth Screen.

Executive Producer Damien Timmer is confident that the series has potential for several more seasons in the future, as its title character has held the British throne for over 60 years.

The premiere of the series attracted 7.7 million people.
