Wolverine 3 director James Mangold has signed a contract with Walt Disney for a free-form adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This is reported by the publication Deadline. It is alleged that the movie will tell about the transformation of the Indian prince into Captain Nemo and the creation of the unique submarine ship "Nautilus".

Note that Walt Disney has been trying to make a new movie about the adventures of Nemo and his companions for many years. Once the director of the picture was David Fincher, but he dropped out of the project due to lack of agreement on the terms of the contract.

Walt Disney has already movieed 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the mid-1950s. This movie was one of the studio's first full-length projects. The role of Nemo was played by Kirk Douglas. Based on this picture, themed attractions were then created in the company's amusement parks.

As a reminder, Fox also plans to movie its version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, commissioning director Brian Singer. The latter is ready to start movieing a movie based on his own script in the fall of 2016.

The timing of work on the Walt Disney project has not yet been specified. Most likely, Mangold will start work after the premiere of "Wolverine 3".
