CBS will reboot the formerly popular Secret Agent MacGyver series, which aired on ABC from 1985 to 1992, starring Richard Dean Anderson. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on the original action-adventure movie, the new version of CBS follows a young MacGyver who is recruited by a secret organization to use his clever tricks to solve problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters and catastrophes.

R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles) will write and executive produce with original series producer Henry Winkler and James Wan (Fast and Furious 7, Aquaman). which will remove the pilot and will further supervise the television project.

The original series has seven seasons and 139 episodes, and in 1994 two television movies were released: "MacGyver: The Lost Treasures of Atlantis" and "Secret Agent MacGyver: The Path to the End Sveta". Paramount Television attempted to movie the "Young MacGyver" spin-off with Jared Padalecki, which was unsuccessful. For his part, James Wang has expressed his willingness to direct New Line Cinema's MacGyver movie in 2012.
