John Malkovich has joined the cast of the disaster movie Deep Sea Horizon. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Recall that the movie project will be based on real events that took place on the BP drilling platform on April 20, 2010. The explosion and the subsequent oil spill became the largest in the history of the US oil industry, and the accident itself was recognized as one of the largest man-made disasters.

A significant part of the water area of the Gulf of Mexico was closed for fishing, in total, about 1,700 kilometers of the coast were polluted with oil products. As a result of the accident, 11 people were killed and dozens were injured. BP was forced to spend billions of dollars to deal with the disaster and pay fines.

Mark Wahlberg will play the lead role in the movie directed by Peter Berg. It will also star Kurt Russell. Malkovich got the role of BP manager, who seeks to hide the scale of the accident. Filming should start in the summer of 2015, the premiere date at the time of this writing has not been specified.

In 2014, viewers could see John Malkovich in the movie "Cut Bank", in which he played the role of the sheriff.
