Paramount TV and the producers of the miniseries The Ink Factory team up to develop a limited-episode series based on another spy novel by John le Carre, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. The adaptation will be handled by Academy Award-winning Simon Bofoy (Slumdog Millionaire). This is reported by the Deadline edition.

For the book, based on which the movie of the same name was shot in 1965 with Richard Burton in the title role, this will be the first television adaptation. Le Carre, who co-wrote the script for the feature movie with Paul Den, has been appointed executive producer of the upcoming television project. The Ink Factory will co-finance and produce the series with Paramount TV and Character 7. Outside the UK, distribution will be provided by Paramount Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution.

In the novel that topped the New York Times bestseller list for seven months, Alec Limas watches the death of his last agent, shot while trying to cross the border at the newly erected Berlin Wall. For Limas, a senior British counterintelligence officer in Berlin, the Cold War is over. But he has a choice – retirement or even worse - doing paperwork - or getting revenge. By pretending to be embittered and going all out, Limas becomes bait for Mundt, the deputy director of East German counterintelligence.
