Viola Davis cast as lead in HBO drama
HBO Films is collaborating with writer Kirk Ellis ("John Adams"), producer Doug Allin ("Entourage") and Steven Spielberg's Amblin TV to develop a biographical drama about Harriet Tubman. The role of the famous abolitionist will be performed by Oscar nominee Viola Davis ("The Servant"). This is reported by The Wrap. The as-yet-untitled television movie based on Kate Clifford Larson's novel "Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman: Portrait of an American Hero" tells the story of the fugitive slave Tubman. which, with the help of the Underground Railroad, a system for transporting escaped slaves from southern states to northern states, freed more than three hundred slaves, and later fought on the side of the Union during the Civil War. Justin Falway ("Outside"), Darryl Frank ("Red Bracelets"), Ellen, Jim Lefkowits ("Love and Mercy"), Clif Dorfman ("Handsome Men"), Davis and Julius Tennon (" Rizzoli & Isles "). Davis is currently starring in ABC's legal drama Avoiding Murder, which will return for a second season in fall 2015.
