Thirty years after its debut on the big screen, "The Last Star Fighter" returns as a TV series. According to Variety, Surreal.tv is teaming up with original screenwriter Jonathan R. Bethwell to create a new show called The Starfighter Chronicles.

A 1984 movie directed by Nick Castle told about a teenager named Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), who, thanks to his exceptional talents in video games, receives an offer to become a fighter of the intergalactic fleet, the Star League, to help defend the galaxy from evil forces in the person of Zur and his armada of Ko-Dan.

In the upcoming series, the moment of recruiting the main character into the army will be omitted, and the focus will be on the Star League's intergalactic law enforcement.

While the original movie used the emerging CGI technologies of the time, the series aims to expand the range of visual possibilities for viewers with virtual reality helmets. Surreal.tv founders Rick Rae and Andy Wick have little experience in the development of virtual reality technologies, so it will be interesting to see what happens on The Starfighter Chronicles.
