Independent Studios Take Zorro to the Future
Independent studios Lantica Media and Sobini Films have decided to send Zorro into a post-apocalyptic future. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The movie with the working title "Zorro Reborn" will take place on the territory of modern California, as in the original novels of the early 20th century, but the masked hero will have to fight not only with corrupt officials, but also with much more exotic enemies ... Filming is due to start in March 2016 at the Pinewood studio in the Dominican Republic. The project will be presented to potential buyers at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. A leading actor and director have not been selected yet. Note that earlier the 20th Century Fox studio sought to send Zorro into an unusual reality for him, for example, into the future, but these plans were never destined to be realized. The movie "Mask of Zorro" released in 1998 was the last successful adaptation of the Zorro legends at the time of this writing. The main role in it was played by Antonio Banderas. It is noteworthy that this was the first time in 80 years in Hollywood history when Zorro was played by a Spanish-speaking actor. At the box office, the picture earned $ 250 million.
