Ethan Hawke has joined the cast of the new take on the classic western, The Magnificent Seven. It is reported by the Variety edition. The role that he will play is not specified yet.
Antoine Fuqua is appointed director of the movie, and Denzel Washington will play the role of one of the characters, with whom Fukua and Hawke himself met earlier on the set of the movie "Training Day". Chris Pratt is also expected to join the project. Previously, rumors circulated that Tom Cruise could star in the western, but this information has not been officially confirmed at the time of this writing.
In the original 1960 movie, which in turn was a loose interpretation of the Japanese movie "Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa, the plot was built around a squad of shooters, who are hired to protect the inhabitants of a Mexican village. The main role was played by Yul Brynner. The movie had three full-length sequels, and in the 90s of the last century, a series based on it was released.
In the new version of the movie "The Magnificent Seven" the action will be transferred from Mexico to one of the American mining towns, whose residents, tired of suffering from the oppressive rule of the "golden baron", decide to hire a team of free shooters.
Nick Pizzolatto will write the script.
