Rush star Tom Ellis has been cast as the pilot for the Fox drama Lucifer, based on Mike Carey's graphic novel "Lucifer" from Vertigo. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the plot, the main character of the series, Lucifer (Ellis), is fed up with his duties as the Lord of Hell and, having left his throne and kingdom, rushes to the magnificent and iridescent with all the colors of the rainbow Los Angeles, where he gets real pleasure helping the local police department catch criminals.

Lucifer first appeared in the 65th issue of the comic "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" in 1962, and got his rebirth in "Sand man "Neil Gaiman in 1989. The character was modeled after David Bowie. Mike Carey developed the character over time and made his solo debut in 2000. The graphic novel was published up to 2006 and has 75 issues.

The creator of Californication, Tom Kapinos, will write the script. Len Wiseman ("Sleepy Hollow") has been named pilot director. He and Jerry Bruckheimer will jointly executive produce.
