The adaptation of Stephen King's acclaimed novel Confrontation will not begin with the movie directed by Josh Boone in February 2014, but with a mini-series. According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. Studios, CBS Films and Josh Boone himself are in talks with Showtime to produce an eight-episode miniseries that will lead to a big-budget feature movie.

Josh Boone ("Blame stars ") will write a script and direct a mini-series himself, according to insiders, early next year.

Recall that the novel" Confrontation "describes an epic battle between the forces of good and evil after almost all the world's population was destroyed by a deadly virus. The plot is built around a group of survivors who fight a sinister man named Randall Flegg.

The miniseries will allow Boone to accommodate more events and characters from King's epic novel than a three-hour movie. The same strategy was considered for the adaptation of another King's work – "The Dark Tower", which ultimately still hasn't happened.

King is expected to co-produce with Roy Lee and Jimmy Miller on the project. Next week there will be a meeting between moviemakers to take stock of the ambitious project. Agents working with Class A actors have already been notified of the upcoming casting as Boone is interested in bringing several stars to his project. So, in August 2014, Matthew McConaughey received an offer to star in Boone's upcoming movie.

First published in 1978, Confrontation became a cult work and was reprinted in 1990 with some additions and changes made by King. In 1994, a miniseries was movieed starring Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald and Rob Lowe.

Boone is expected to do the miniseries before starting work on the People's spin-off. X, The New Mutants for 20th Century Fox, and the Universal adaptation of Anne Rice's Prince Lestat: The Vampire Chronicles.

Representatives of Warner Bros. and CBS Films have so far refrained from commenting, as have Showtime executives, which said "there is nothing to discuss at this time."
