In the United States, at the age of 84, the popular Hollywood actor Leonard Nimoy, best known to viewers for his role as the Vulcan Spock from the Star Trek TV series, as well as several feature movies, has died.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor died at his home in Bel Air. His relatives claim that the cause of death was a chronic lung disease.

Leonard Nimoy was born in Boston into the family of a hairdresser and housewife. His movie debut took place in the 50s of the last century, when he began to play supporting roles in television series. Real fame came to him in 1966 when the first episodes of Star Trek were released. Since then, the actor has played or voiced Spock in countless television, animation, video games and feature movies. He most recently appeared in his iconic role in the 2013 movie Star Trek: Retribution.

Leonard Nimoy has starred in other popular TV series, including Mission Impossible, Colombo and others. The actor also took an active part in the development of the Transformers franchise. In particular, it was in his voice that Sentinel Prime spoke in the movie "Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon". In the animation project "Transformers" he voiced Galvatron.
